Mount Wall

7 June 2015

Peter Umbers, Darcy Mawson, Yvette So, Merv Meredith and me, Kerry Moore parked at the locked gate on the Broken River Ski Road and walked up to the field on a crisp frosty morning. On patches of snow we headed NW to gain the main ridge of the Craigieburn Range. When four of us caught up to Merv we stopped for lunch.

The 2½km travel along the ridge was easy at first with a choice of snow or rock but nearer Mt Wall we were finding our way around craggy sections. Yvette and Darcy recalled exiting off 1874m Mt Wall before on its SW side then swinging east but we chose a snow-free direct easterly route for a marvelous extended scree run of 800m to Broken River. A 20 minute walk on the road got us back to the car and home to Chch with a little daylight to spare.
