Trig M - Rabbit Hill
Saturday 25th October
The trip was scheduled for Saturday, which was lucky as we just managed to sneak it in between two fronts. There were five takers, but Tanya, a prospective new member, had to pull out. Hopefully, we will see her soon on another trip!
Karen came to my house, we picked Ann up at Church Corner, and Murray at West Melton. We started at the roadside start of the track just before Lake Lyndon at 10.20am. For the others, this was a new way to reach Trig M, as they had previously gone via Coach Stream Route. As it is lambing season, this option was closed. I have always gone straight up from the road, as I usually take my dog, which is not allowed on the Coach Stream Route.
The weather was better than expected, fresh and sunny. We enjoyed great views all around. The wind picked up from the first saddle and was reasonably strong, doable, but it kept getting stronger. We had morning tea in a sheltered spot just before we reached Trig M and a lunch break shortly afterwards around 12.20pm in a spot sheltered by the trees at a saddle between Trig M and Rabbit Hill. We decided going further wasn’t worth the battle with the wind, so we turned back and were back at the car around 2.00pm.
We were Evelien Baas (Leader), Ann Schofield, Karen Fincham and Murray Hight. EB
